The Ahom King Sukaphaa
SUKAPHAA
- Prince of Mong Mao/ Maolung (Kingdom of Pong)
-His father was Chao Chang-Nyeu and mother was Blak Kham Sen.
-He gave his identity as son of God Khun-lung [according to Ahom legends Khun-lung and Khun-lai were the grandson of Leng Don (Lord of heaven)].
-"No two kings sit in the same throne"-said by his grandmother to him after his maternal uncle's son was born.
-Started journey in 1215 AD.
-Reached Brahmaputra Valley in1228 AD through Patkai hills and Pangsau Pass.
-He brought diamond, tusked elephant, sword Hengdang.
-Ahoms called Assam Mungdunsukham (field of golden valley)
-He got married to the daughter of local Moran King Badausa after reaching Brahmaputra Valley to make friendship.
-Built capital at Charaideo in 1253
-Created posts Borgohain and Burhagohain
-The first Borgohain- Kanangan, the first Burhagohain- Klinglumangari
-Died in 1268 AD.
-'Axom Divas/Assam Day/Sukaphaa Divas' is celebrated on 2nd December remembering Sukaphaa's arrival in Brahmaputra Valley.
